Research & Development Activities
Research and Development of the company was started in the year 2010 with an objective of developing in-house hybrids in major vegetable crops such as Tomato, Hot Pepper, Okra, Melons, Gourds and Marigold for domestic and international markets. We have wide range of germ plasms and are handled by skilled breeding team. Continuous breeding efforts are directed towards developing hybrids with tolerance or resistance to important foliar and root diseases, high-quality, high-yielding with good field performance and wide adaptability.
Three R & D stations are located in Karnataka state, India with different agro-climatic zones to provide crop specific climatic conditions, also to support effective evaluation and selection. Apart, we also take up Multi-location trials in different climatic zones to understand the performance of the hybrid and its adaptability.
Our R&D main station has been recognized by the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (Gandhi Krishi Vigyana Kendra – GKVK), Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) and Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR).
Tomato being one of the major focused crops of the R&D program, our focus is to offer a wide range of high-yielding hybrids for fresh market, processing and dual-purpose. Both determinate and indeterminate types are developed for open field and protected cultivation.
Hot pepper is an important vegetable crop in India, with a gradual shift from open-pollinated varieties to hybrid. The R&D program focuses on developing virus-tolerant and CMS-based hybrids to meet market requirements for both green and red peppers, with emphasis on yield, uniformity and adaptability.
The okra breeding program aims at developing high-yielding hybrids with tolerance to YVMV and Enation virus, along with superior pod quality and market acceptability. Several hybrids from this program have established a strong presence in domestic as well as overseas markets.
Melons and watermelons are major commercial crops under the R&D program. Breeding efforts is to develop hybrids based on market preferences such as fruit size, shape, sweetness, keeping quality and disease tolerance with good transportable hybrids.
The company also focuses on improving traditional Asian vegetables, including ridge gourd, bottle gourd, sponge gourd and bitter gourd.
These locations enable testing of hybrids under varied climatic and soil conditions before commercial release.
